Monday Madness

Monday MadnessThis week's Monday Madness Questions

  1. Which of the holidays that you celebrate, do you feel is the most important?

Two come to mind. The first, Easter, is a traditional holiday that is important to me because I am Catholic, and we celebrate Christ's sacrifice for us on Easter. The second is a holiday that we observe. Remembrance Day is important because we honour those who have served, and who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

  2. Which holiday do you most enjoy?

I enjoy Christmas. It's a wonderful celebration. Putting up the tree and decorating it, shopping for and wrapping presents, attending Mass, getting together with family, giving gifts and watching others open them, enjoying good food together.

  3. Is there one holiday that your family tries to get together every year? If so, which one?

My family and I used to live in the same general area, so we would get together for all the major holidays. This summer my husband and I moved to Munich, so it will be just the two of us celebrating together for the next three years.

  4. Share one special memory from a past holiday.

A few years ago I bought my husband the comic book "Avengers #1" for Christmas. He is a huge comic book reader and collector. I will never forget the expression on his face once he opened up the gift and realized what is was. He was very touched, and I was so happy to be able to surprise him.

  5. Name one holiday coming up, that you're really looking forward to, and why.

I'm looking forward to Christmas this year. It will be our first Christmas in Germany, and I'm looking forward to experiencing many of the German and Bavarian Christmas traditions. We plan on visiting the Christkindlmarkt at Marienplatz as well as some of the other Christmas markets in Munich. We hope to try some Glühwein (hot spiced wine) and experience some of the traditional German Advent and Christmas celebrations.

I think all Weihnachtsmarkts will start next week-end ! It's really something special and a lot of tourists are coming by bus to Germany only for that. The Glühwein tastes very good and is not strong at all, they have it in white and red. You also can buy it in bottles (we always buy some bottles in Aachen) and heat it at home. That's also good for Christmas. You should tell us how you found the market when you have been there ! You are not celebrating Christmas alone don't forget there is little Drake and a kitten with a Christmas tree is terrible ! Since many years now we had to buy an artificial tree, because cat babies would climb up the tree and play with bulbs and decorations ! It will be very funny !
We will go next week to Aachen, this is the nearest German town from Belgium also to fill us up with Christmas athmosphere. I have never missed Germany except in Christmas times although I were with my parents.

Hi Caylynn,

I agree that Easter is a significant holiday because it's a celebration of Jesus' great love for us.

I love Christmas! It's a great holiday because of how family and friends take time to be together. I love the season of sharing.

Take care,
RAch

I forgot to mention that you have a beautiful tree. It's so nice to see so many presents.

What a wonderful surprise for your husband. Seeing his delighted face must have been priceless.

Happy Monday! It's wonderful to have the opportunity to experience the way different cultures celebrate the holidays. I look forward to hearing about German Christmas celebrations. Take lots of pictures ;-)

What a special gift you bought your husband. Things like that are so much more appreciated... where you know how much thought went into them. Good job!

I have heard of Weihnachtsmarkts from a good friend of mine who is German, and she makes sure she's back home from the US during the holidays :-)
