Thursday Thirteen #58

Thirteen Things Caylynn loves about Munich
  1. The beer (Helles beer - yum!)
  2. The bread (with Bäckerei - bakeries - on every corner - more numerous than Tim Hortons in Canada!)
  3. The beer (Weiß beer - yum!)
  4. The public transport system (U-Bahn, S-Bahn, Bus, etc.)
  5. The Englischer Garten (large, beautiful park in the middle of Munich, much like Central Park in New York, but bigger)
  6. The wonderful running trails throughout the city, especially along the Isar river (runs through the middle of Munich) and the Englischer Garten
  7. The bike lanes along every major, and many not-so-major roads
  8. The weather - it doesn't get as hot or as humid as Ottawa does (where we were living before moving to Munich) which is great as far as I'm concerned!
  9. The history - so much history to learn about and explore
  10. The castles and palaces - the Bavarian royalty sure knew how to build beautiful palaces
  11. The fact that Germans are umweltbewusst (environmentally aware) - with everything from recycling and garbage separation, to bringing their own bags/baskets/carts when shopping (no plastic or paper bags just given out at the grocery stores - if you don't bring your own, you have to buy one), to the use of much less packaging than in North America, etc.
  12. People are much more likely to walk, bike, or take public transport, especially for short trips, than take their car, as compared to North America
  13. The beer! And the fact that you can buy beer anywhere (as opposed to only at The Beer Store in Ontario) and drink it anywhere - walking down the street, on the S-Bahn or U-Bahn, etc.
You can check out our pictures of Munich and Germany here.

I've always wanted to visit an authentic castle!

So you like beer, right? :)
Then Germany really is the place to be.
I've never been in Münich, I do love Cologne (especially the Weinacht's Markt!)

Thanks for visiting my TT!

Oh oh, just that beer-fact would make me go there :-)

I've never been, but I guess I have to add it to my list of places to go once my kids are grown. :)

Yep, the beer here is good. *grin*

That's one of the many reasons hubby and I will definitely keep running while we're here - must earn the beer! ;)

There is a drinking age, but I'm not sure what it is (as I'm more than old enough to drink. :P)

Seems to be a beautiful place. Who knows one day it could be a wish come true for me too.
Thanks for passing by.

Wow, Munich sounds like an awesome place!! Maybe one day I will get to visit, thanks for stopping by my TT!!

Munich sounds great. Why didn't you mention the beer?

Seriously, I need to get on board with bringing my own shopping bags. Good canvas ones would last a lifetime, and besides, that crackly plasic sound makes me cringe.

I'd love to go to Germany someday. It's only about a 24 hour drive from here.

Interesting list! I must confess I didn't know much about Munich, except that the Olympics were once there. Learned something new today! :)

Thanks for visiting my TT!

I would love to go to Germany for a visit. Sounds like an absolutely fabulous place. And all that beer. heh.

Munich is lovely - I was there with my family a couple years ago. We visited Aumeister Beirgarten and couldn't believe how beautiful it was. "Beergardens" in America are hardly a comparison.

Great list.

I’m looking for feedback.

we've been talking about a trip to Germany- sounds like my kind of place!!

I'd like to visit there. My husband was stationed there when he was in the military and he loved it. He also loved the german black beer.

Thank you for stopping by

Yea for beer and bread! [grin]

#6 - Sounds delightful, although I'd be walking, rather than jogging.

#7 - Wish they had more bike lanes in the U.S.

#8 - Yea for that. Humidity is my major complaint with living in Missouri. The Summers here are miserable for me.

#9 thru #12 - Sounds like a great place to visit or live. I wanna visit some castles, darn it! [smile]

#13 - Yea for beer! Um, did I say that already? [heh]

Thanks for stopping by my T13 today. Hope you're having a terrific Thursday!

Somebody put the "going to Europe next year" idea in my head earlier this week, and this is only serving to keep it there! It is so strange that they have old castles still standing and the Americas are so young.

Good list! Makes me want to pack my bags!

Happy TT!

Munich sounds great! You even made the beer sound good (I don't drink beer, but I am in America...). How funny, my good friend is from Ottawa and she just married a guy from Germany. Small world. Thanks for visiting (and the subtle spell checking...I fixed the holodeck!)

Yay beer.
Sounds like my kind of town.
Cheers from NYC,
Frances
PS Thanks for stopping in.

I've never been to Munich, Germany, but this list made me want to go for sure! I'm a huge fan of beer, and by the sound of your list, so are you! Castles, history, and plenty of culture also sound like a surefire way to my heart.

Beautiful list! Happy Thursday to you, and feel free to visit my list as well if you get the chance!

A CASTLE! A perfect place for me to live! Maybe I should go and rule Germany instead of the US?

Oh, nice to meet you, Caylynn! I've got to do a TT about what I like about Germany, too, one of these days. Munich is a beautiful city. I'm glad you're enjoying it.

I've never been to Germany, but you make it sound like a lovely place. If I ever get across the sea (on my to-do list) I may have to make an effort to get there.
